My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I read Discount Armageddon back in 2013, and remembered loving it, and that it had cryptids and the awesome mice, a ballroom dancer and a hot enemy agent. Apart from that, all the details were a bit fuzzy, so, picking this one was met with equal parts excitement and fear of lack of context.
Well, I shouldn’t have worried at all. As the narrative went by all important details come rushing back in, and in vivid colors. Once more I loved Verity with a passion. She is reckless and sometimes makes poor choices, but her heart is on the right place, and I loved reading this installment.
Seanan McGuire present us with some awesome world and interesting characters. The cryptids never cease to amaze and we got to know more about the fascinating cuckoo powers/biology.
I will miss the New York gang. But they are safe for now, and will be better prepared for next time.
Time to meet another environment and to find out if insanity really runs in the family.
