Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme by the Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is “Top Ten 2016 Releases I Meant To Read But Didn’t Get To (But TOTALLY plan to)“.
Last year was… complicated, to keep it short and simple. It was also the year that 1) I bought more physical books than usual and 2) the year I manage to read less since joining goodreads back in 2011.Thus, a lot of new releases were left behind. Some were eARCs and need to be read in a rush, some were even started. Some were added to the list because of those that were started. Not to mention the book ordering gone wrong which caused precious books to be lost and arrived long due their needed date.

It has great reviews, most of my goodreads friends swear by it, and the author describes it as Romeo & Juliet minus Romance plus Monsters. It had to be on my list 🙂

I personally picked This Savage Song to be a book of the month on my goodreads group, but there was a glitch with the book order which caused it to arrive more than a month late, so it is unread.
Scythe has me both wanting to try and scared to try. Unwind was disturbingly good even if I still need to finish the series (it hit me pretty harsh), so his view on the Grimm Reaper has to be all kinds of awesome (and chilling)

Oh man, that’s a shame! Hope you manage to read it soon! You should definitely finish the Unwind series if you get a chance, it is chilling but chillingly brilliant. I’m sure Scythe will probably be the same!

Yeah, I had more than 10 myself… so I picked the top 9… It helps that with my reading slump most of my current series are so behind the last published installment that none of the correspondent 2016 releases was considered here.

I reached my Goodreads goal to read at least 200 books (I think I read 206), but I did not read all of the various series I had hoped to read in 2016.
I can think of three books that were released in 2016 that I WANTED to read, and rather desperately, too, but just somehow never found the time:
1. When All the Girls Have Gone by my favorite author (also known as Jayne Ann Krentz)
1a. I made this my second read of 2017. It was fabulous! 🙂
2. Crimson Death by Laurell K. Hamilton
2b. This book is #25 (or 24?) in the Anita Blake series and I like (need) too read this series from book one EVERY time I read it. . .and who has the time to read that many books back-to-back? 😦
3. Once Broken Faith by Seanan McGuire
3b. This is #10 (10? I think 10) in the October Daye series, which I read through book #9 in September (give or take a month or two). I bought this book in September or October and meant to read it while my memories of Toby’s adventures were still “fresh,” but again, I just never found the time.
*sigh*
So all of these books (and others) are “priority” reads for me in 2017. As I said, I’ve already managed to read one of them (yay!) and I have big plans to get caught up by reading the others before we say goodbye to January.
(I CAN read the Anita Blake latest by reading my reviews of the earlier books, and then I’ll read the latest, but then I’ll also probably NEED to start over from book one to see Anita’s progression to the latest’s point. I did this once upon a time over a period of one week [six days: Monday through Saturday]. I think I read 30 books that week, including rereads–twice! First I read I think books 16-17-18, then I read books 10-18, then I gave up/gave in and read from book #1. I had a major case of insomnia that week and to this day, I still don’t know if I would have had insomnia had I not tried to read the latest Anita Blake book.)
