In a perfect world, there was no such thing as reading rut. Or, in alternative, whenever the reading mood falters you have the choice to put the world in hold till the mood returns.
Sadly, this is not that world. And in a way, that’s a good thing, because the notion of perfection varies from person to person, thus, it was risky to try to have it.
Anyway, last couple of months, either due to real life or lack of will, I am in a reading slump.
So, I guess the question is what happens to a book blog/blogger when the reading mood is moot?
Things not to do:
╰⊰✿ Hitting the pause button – there is no pause button on life
╰⊰✿ Force yourself to read – It may work out at first, but you risk making it worse and instead of a couple of weeks you end up needed a couple of months break
╰⊰✿ Feel the pressure to post and add another stress factor to your life
╰⊰✿ Left your blog unattended and feel guilty about it.
What happened during the Harpy’s Reading Rut:
╰⊰✿ I got 10 new followers. That’s right, I passed from 64 to 74 in my absence.
╰⊰✿ My NetGalley TBR grew to dangerous numbers again – yes, I’m still above the 80% ratio, but getting dangerously close:

I love Goodreads Choice Awards! Even if some choices of the goodreads gods don’t make sense at all.
My biggest rant is the merge of the FANTASY and PARANORMAL FANTASY categories they did a few years ago. Specially when they have Memoirs MEMOIR & AUTOBIOGRAPHY and HISTORY & BIOGRAPHY separated. They ignored my (and a lot of people’s feedback) so, now my biggest fear is one of these days they’ll need to add another non fiction slot and put SCI-FI into the mix and then we will have to choose between Mistborn, Morning Star and Magic Binds!
Yes, I know we have that dilemma for Young Adult. And it’s not fair, even if I know it’s necessary.
The other thing is Eligibility rules vs Release Date. Due to the first (and the annoying habit the goodreads users have of rating unread books) we have Heartless up for vote. Now, ARCs apart, the book will only be released on the 14th. Meaning people will vote WITHOUT reading it for it to make final rounds. WHERE IS THE SENSE IN THAT?!
So, what were my votes? Only in two categories, because being in a reading rut means no reading at all:
FANTASY
It was a write-in vote, but it was also, hands down, the BEST reading of the year – book #2 in on the eARC list and I really want to read it.
ROMANCE
Yes, I’m totally cheating here because I didn’t get a chance to finish the book, but the part I read WAS ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS. So, I’m voting, and I hope it wins.

I have been holding onto Magic Binds. But if you are in a reading slump, the best way to get out is to revisit a series you love and haven’t read in a while.
I’ve been watching more TV lately and reading less.
Blogging: sometimes you need a break so don’t beat yourself up.

Hey Ezi, long time no see!
Thanks to the Kate Daniels challenge I’ve been re-reading the series. I stopped by the end of Andrea’s book. It helped a little – I’m back to blogging at least 🙂
Yeah, Magic Binds is… hard to read. It kinda reminds me of Magic Rises… not the plot or anything, but what I felt towards the book. Hence the lack of review one month later. Because it’s hard to review. And next one will be the last. And the thought of saying goodbye to Kate & Curran hits me harder than when it was Ty & Zane’s turn. (I think it’s going to be worse. Much. Much worse)
Yeah, I have no idea either. They have some weird algorithm to do it. I hope the Faith Hunter one makes the cut for the top 5 write-ins… but I’m not sure it will.
